The Optimists

THE VIDEO FILM "THE OPTIMISTS: The Story of the Rescue of the Bulgarian Jews from the Holocaust" will be shown on Saturday, May 3, 2:30 pm at the Community Unitarian Church.

This award winning documentary tells the inspiring story of how Bulgarian individuals helped their Jewish friends and neighbors and managed to save 50,000 Bulgarian Jews.

Originally released in 2005, the film took the producer and director Jacky Comforty 20 years to make. His paternal grandparents and extended family were among those rounded up for the train ride to Treblinka. Yet despite Nazi pressures, the entire 50,000 member Jewish community was spared the Holocaust. Comforty and his wife , co producer Lisa Vogel Comforty, were determined to tell the story of the Bulgarian Jews before those who lived it have passed away.

The Community Unitarian Church is located at 468 Rosedale Avenue, White Plains, NY near exit 25 of the Hutchinson River Parkway.
